Through experimental observations and theoretical calculations, the team identified a distinctive phonon behavior in which certain vibrational modes appear to be \u201cfrustrated,\u201d as if they are attempting to move but are being constrained. Notably, upon laser excitation, these phonon vibrations transitioned into an asymmetric form, revealing a new metastable state. Based on these findings, the researchers introduced a novel concept termed \u201cphonon frustration\u201d.
